Come and See Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada

By Sabrina Pirillo

Beneath Canada’s tallest freestanding structure, in the heart of downtown Toronto, an aquatic world teeming with life awaits. Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada is home to 18,000 marine, freshwater creatures, including 475 species of fish, invertebrates and green sea turtles. Spread across 12,500 square metres with 5.7-million litres of water, this underwater wonderland features 58 exhibits, over 100 interactive displays, and daily Dive Shows.

Come and see what lies under the sea and become part of this world.

Stingrays, Jellyfish and Sharks, Oh My!

Ever wondered what it feels like to touch a stingray? At Ray Bay, you can stretch out your hand and experience these mesmerizing creatures up close as they glide by. At Planet Jellies, watch glow-in-the-dark jellyfish illuminate the room, changing colours under special lighting. One of the highlights is the Dangerous Lagoon. A breathtaking moving walkway takes you through an underwater tunnel surrounded by sharks, sea turtles and stingrays. It’s like walking on the ocean floor, no wetsuit required!

A Kaleidoscope of Colours

Discover vibrant clownfish, seahorses and other tropical species swaying to the rhythm of their amphibious habitat. Rainbow Reef enchants with thousands of dazzling, warm-water fish zipping around an Indo-Pacific-inspired coral ecosystem. Supporting local marine life, the Canadian Waters exhibit takes you coast-to-coast, where you’ll meet fascinating residents like the giant Pacific octopus and the red-bellied piranha. Don’t miss the two-storey Kelp Forest, spotlighting the beauty of British Columbia’s shores.

Daily Dives, Discovery and Discussions

Navigate an interactive research submarine for a new perspective of the Dangerous Lagoon, ride the shark slide, or conquer the rock-climbing wall at the Discovery Centre.

Witness electric eels at The Gallery and explore the behind-the-scenes magic habitats at Life Support Systems. Watch divers feed stingrays at the daily Dive Shows while Aquarist Talks let you hear straight from the experts. And when it is time to come up for some air, grab a bite at Ripley’s Café, snap a memory at the Photo Port, or visit the Cargo Hold Gift Shop for the perfect sea-venir.

Mythical Creatures

Dragons, the aquarium’s newest exhibit, invites curious minds to marvel at the stealthy tree python, gaze into the eyes of the fearsome gila monster, and watch the small yet fierce crocs propel through their aquatic home.

Sleeping with the Fish

Not like that! Imagine the ultimate sleepover in the shark tunnel. It is like going to Ariel’s slumber party. You can sleep under the sea and wake up to a shark swimming overhead—now that’s a wake-up call!

Did You Know?

You can join an ocean-themed Paint and Waves class, and the second Friday of every month, Jazz Night transforms the aquarium with a live band to enhance your underwater experience.
