A Taste of Adventure in Daytona Beach

By Robynne Trueman

Daytona Beach’s 37 kilometres of sandy shoreline might be the main reason for booking your beach vacation, but there is much more to explore. Dive into fine dining, waterfront luxury rentals, historic landmarks and family-friendly fun in Florida’s great outdoors.

Daytona Beach invites you to cast off from your everyday comfort zone and experience the best sights, sounds and flavours of Florida.

Sunshine Stays

As snowbirds have discovered for decades, there is something about the sunshine and saltwater of Daytona Beach that entices you to stay a while. From charming beach bungalows to luxury vacation rentals, there are plenty of options for long-term stays in Daytona Beach. Plaza Vacations, Max Beach Resort or Salty Dog Vacations offer chic, modern living with ocean views, while bed and breakfasts like The Abbey House or River Lily Inn Bed and Breakfast provide a relaxed, homey retreat for shorter visits. Include furry family members in your Daytona Beach adventure thanks to pet-friendly accommodations in the heart of paradise.

Dining the Daytona Beach Way

Take a bite out of beach life with fine dining or casual oceanside restaurants—Daytona Beach has both! For an upscale meal, head to Golden Spoon award-winner, The Cellar Restaurant, or make a reservation at Mama Foo Foo or Rose Villa Southern Table & Bar. Travel back in time to 1931 at 31 Supper Club, a restaurant conceived as a tribute to Ormond Beach. This trendy spot honours the lost classic clubs, with a chef-prepared menu. For more casual fare, Ocean Deck Restaurant & Beach Club is the place to be in Daytona Beach, with live music and views right on the water.

Paddling the Great Outdoors

Pick up a paddle to explore the pristine waterways of Daytona Beach in Tomoka State Park. You can rent a kayak or canoe at the Tomoka Outpost and choose a launching point within the park for a chance to be fully immersed in this Floridian natural landscape. The bountiful green space is a birder’s paradise, home to more than 160 species of local and migratory birds. If a day in the park isn’t enough to satisfy your thirst for adventure and wildlife encounters, there are full-facility campsites for overnight stays.

Views from the Deck

Before the sun sets on your time in Daytona Beach, head a few kilometres south to climb the 203 steps of Ponce Inlet Lighthouse, the tallest lighthouse in Florida. Take in the awe-inspiring 360-degree views of the Ponce de Leon Inlet from the observation deck at the southernmost tip of the Daytona Beach peninsula. Standing at 53 metres tall, the heritage landmark lighthouse was established in 1887 and shines a light on the lives of former lighthouse keepers through its on-site museum.
