Flagler Museum A Gilded Age Masterpiece
By DreamScapes Staff
When Henry Flagler, the visionary co-founder of Standard Oil, unveiled his Palm Beach estate in 1902, jaws dropped. The New York Herald raved that Whitehall was “more wonderful than any palace in Europe.” And it’s easy to see why. With its soaring marble columns, Louis XV–style and Beaux-Arts furnishings, and a grand staircase worthy of royalty, the 75-room mansion redefined luxury in the Gilded Age. Every inch of Whitehall gleams with the ambition of a man who dreamed big—and built even bigger.
A Legacy That Still Shines
Now a National Historic Landmark, the Flagler Museum invites visitors to step into a glittering world of history and elegance. Wander through opulent ballrooms where Palm Beach society once danced under crystal chandeliers, and glimpse the innovations that shaped Florida’s rise as a winter playground for America’s elite.
Lively Museum Experience
There are chamber concerts that make Flagler’s world hum. Among the 13,000 artifacts, don’t miss the Grand Hall’s seven varieties of marble, the Music Room with its historic organ, or the Flagler Kenan Pavilion, where Railcar No. 91 (Flagler’s restored private railcar) is displayed. These small theatrics are a window to this legendary American story of industry, travel and social spectacle.
Seasonally rotating exhibitions and guided tours keep Flagler’s vision alive—proof that timeless grandeur never fades.
