EXPLORE THE WILD SIDE
of
LONDON,
KENTUCKY
BY JESSICA GEDGE AND DREAMSCAPES STAFF
Tucked into the heart of the Daniel Boone
National Forest, London, Kentucky
invites you to step away from the
everyday and duck into the wild beauty of
the Appalachian foothills. Get ready to feel
the adventure as soon as your boots hit the
trail and your tires grip the earth.
MOUNTAIN BIKING
Weave through sun-flecked forest on the
Laurel Lake Trail, a 10-kilometre single-track
that winds along ridges and dips toward the
shoreline. Pines sway overhead, the lake
flashes through the trees, and each turn
delivers another rush of mountain-biking
bliss. Nearby at Levi Jackson Wilderness Road
Park, The Broken Spoke offers a 9-kilometre
loop built for both bikers and hikers. As you
carve through rolling terrain and shaded
woods, the trail feels like your own personal
ribbon of adventure.
OFF-ROADING
Days here in the Appalachian foothills and
the Daniel Boone National Forest unfold in a
wash of grit and elevation. Wildcat Adven-
tures and Offroad Park commands over 809
hectares. This 225-kilometre network threads
through hardwood forest, slick mud pits, and
unforgiving rock faces, like the renowned
“Gnome Dome,” a rite of passage for the sure-
footed. For those in street-legal 4WDs, the
Daniel Boone Backcountry Byway delivers a
160-kilometre sweep of remote forest roads,
equal parts scenic and demanding. The Redbird
Crest Trail System extends the challenge with
long, multi-use routes that reward stamina and
control. It’s a wheel-driven encounter with
terrain that refuses to be tamed.
